Real Time Rome

An interesting project by MIT and Telecom Italia is disclosed at Venice biennalle.

Realtime dynamic data of live traffic data from cell phones, buses and taxis in Rome is tracked and depicted on maps. The urban city is not a creature but a itself. When we consider all the components such as citizens, networks(data, water, transportation, delivery...), facilities and the interaction among them, it's a very complicated organism.

The project aggregated data fromcell phones (obtained using TelecomItalia's innovative Lochnessplatform), buses and taxis in Rome tobetter understand urban dynamicsin real time. By revealing the pulse ofthe city, the project aims toshow how technology can help individualsmake more informed decisionsabout their environment. In the long run,will it be possible to reducethe inefficiencies of present day urbansystems and open the way to amore sustainable urban future?
