Map-based web applications - [ Map + photo ], and Geotagging

Open Map API is the key enabler of the flourishing applications in the mashup world. One good example is the  combination with photography. Map and photography share common property in that they are representing  aspects of the physical world. Therefore this common attribute drives synergy among them in various forms.

Recently, there are several approaches to couple the geo-location information with photography at the time of content creation.

▶ Sony's recent GPS data recorder, which can be attatched to digital cameras.















I guess high-end and middle-range digital cameras will be equipped with GPS receiver and the use of related part of exif metadata will be activated soon. Then the geolocation of photos will be automatically matched and mapped online.

Furthermore, with combinations other technologies and business models such as VR, 3D rendering, online photo sharing will provide new era of virtual experience.
And this may be one of the starting point of the blurring of physical and cyber world.
