CC and Commons

I had been to the CC Korea Conference 2008. Prof. Lessig delivered his keynote somewhat slowly, maybe considering the translator and Korean audience. The sessions in business & art track were quite impressive in general. Among them, followings were the best messages for me.
  • CC mixer Korea - freely remix musics
  • loftwork - CCL for designers can make money, from Japan
  • Jon Phillips - Share or Die.
  • Project Randomwalks - Sharing the process and moment of creation
On the other way, people who are taking CCL from a profit-making point of view seemed somewhat limited in their way of thinking.  Some of them seemed that they did not have full understanding of the commons. People tend to act too early and this makes the difference in the end.

CC Korea Conference(K)

Map-based web applications - [ Map + photo ], and Geotagging

Open Map API is the key enabler of the flourishing applications in the mashup world. One good example is the  combination with photography. Map and photography share common property in that they are representing  aspects of the physical world. Therefore this common attribute drives synergy among them in various forms.

Similar ones : Mappr, Communitywalk

Now Flickr's launched its own map service.

Here's a marriage between map and video.

Virtual Video Map

Recently, there are several approaches to couple the geo-location information with photography at the time of content creation.

Sony's recent GPS data recorder, which can be attatched to digital cameras.

I guess high-end and middle-range digital cameras will be equipped with GPS receiver and the use of related part of exif metadata will be activated soon. Then the geolocation of photos will be automatically matched and mapped online.

Furthermore, with combinations other technologies and business models such as VR, 3D rendering, online photo sharing will provide new era of virtual experience.
And this may be one of the starting point of the blurring of physical and cyber world.

MSR's Photosynth project,

Google trends

According to TechCrunch, Google Trends service has been launched. This is an example of how google is expanding the scope of its value proposition based on its core capability. Here's the feed from TechCrunch.

Google Trendslaunched today. It’s another analysis tool (and a good one), thatallows you to see how often specific search terms are being enteredinto the Google search engine.

Up to five terms can be compared. And you can also view queries thatcontain either or two terms, using a vertical bar “|”. More advancedqueries can be done as well - see the FAQsfor details. Google also puts markers next to major news events thatare about that search query, helping to explain surges. Data can besorted by time, language, geographic location, etc.

In testing it I’m finding it works well for very highly searchedterms, but terms that are very rarely searched show no data at all.Seeing trends on even obscure terms would be useful. Even so, Steve Rubel says Google Trends is “a must-bookmark for every PR person and marketer worldwide.”
